2018 Chevy Colorado Nabs Eco-Friendly Award | CommunityCars.com Blog

When most people think about trucks, “environmentally friendly” usually isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado is out to change that perception, having recently won Green Car Journal’s 2018 Green Truck of the Year award.

Now available at Indianapolis-area Chevy dealerships, the new Chevy Colorado offers a variety of features that eco-conscious consumers in need of a hauler will enjoy. The new Colorado offers almost the same capacity and functionality as its larger cousin, the Silverado, but in a smaller and more nimble vehicle.

The Colorado’s green cred comes in its excellent fuel efficiency. When equipped with its available Duramax Turbodiesel, the Colorado gets up to 30 mpg on the highway—the best fuel efficiency rating in its class.

Green Car Journal gave the Colorado the 2018 Green Truck of the Year award at the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show in late 2017. The publication also gave awards to a police responder vehicle and a performance hybrid.

Green Car Journal execs said they chose to honor vehicles in these segments to recognize automakers’ shift from making green-friendly sedans to the more challenging task of making fuel-efficient, low-emission trucks, police vehicles, and high-performance vehicles. It’s tougher to make fuel-efficient versions of these vehicles because of their increased power demands.

More Than Just Green Friendly

The new Chevy Colorado is more than just a green-friendly truck. The vehicle offers lots of great other features that owners will love. The vehicle offers great towing capacity, a very comfortable cabin, and an excellent ride.

The Colorado offers buyers exceptional towing capacity for a mid-size truck. Properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs. and haul up to 1,600 lbs. in its bed.

On the road, the Colorado handles very well on the highway and in town. Strong suspension ensures that even the bumpiest of roads don’t interfere with the smooth and composed ride the Colorado offers its owners.

Chevy does an excellent job with its cabins, and the Colorado is no exception. Depending on the cab model you purchase, the Colorado can sit between two and five people. Seats are comfortable and offer ample space, although the Crew Cab offers much more rear space than the Extended Cab.

The cabin is attractive and modern and is made of quality materials. The Chevy Colorado comes standard with a USB port, Bluetooth, streaming audio, and a 4.2-inch display. You can upgrade to many great features, including a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen equipped with the MyLink infotainment system.

The Colorado is a truck you can depend on. The vehicle earns above-average reliability scores from J.D. Power and Associates.

A base Colorado has a starting price of around $20,000, making it far less expensive than rival trucks. A fully loaded version of the Colorado will set you back about $40,000, which is still a steal for a truck.
