2018 Mustang Refresh Modernizes Beloved Classic | CommunityCars.com Blog

There are few vehicles that Americans cherish as much as the Ford Mustang. The iconic muscle car has captured the imagination of generations of drivers, and Ford’s continued refining of the Mustang ensures that Indiana car buyers’ affair with the sporty performance vehicle stays fresh.

The latest generation of the Mustang launched in 2015, and, for the 2018 model year, Ford has made several tweaks to its appearance and other features to keep it ahead of the competition. Ford gave the Mustang a more aggressive (if that’s possible) look by re-sculpting the facia and lowering the hood, giving the vehicle a lean and hungry aspect. Ford has ditched the V6 engine but has ramped up the torque on the four-cylinder and improved the power for the V8 version.

The Detroit automaker has re-tuned the 2018 Ford Mustang’s suspension and added a new 10-speed auto transmission. Buyers can also opt for magnetic dampers with the performance pack. In addition to all the mechanical upgrades, Ford also added some new amenities and tweaked the exterior design.

Performance

The standard engine for the Mustang is a four-cylinder EcoBoost that delivers 310 horsepower. Buyers can upgrade to the 460 horsepower V8 in the Mustang’s GT models or a special 526 horsepower V8 made for the Shelby GT350 model.

For a performance vehicle, the Mustang gets pretty good fuel economy. The base engine gets 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The V8 for the GT models gets 15 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

The Mustang is an incredibly fun vehicle to drive, thanks to its awesome power and athleticism. It takes corners like a dream and absorbs all the bumps and bounces of the road with aplomb.

Interior

Ford didn’t slack on the Mustang’s cabin. The 2018 Ford Mustang seats four people, although the back seats can get a little crowded. The interior is made of excellent quality materials and the styling is very attractive. The Mustang offers ample cargo space, with 13 cubic feet in the fastback coupe and 11 cubic feet in the convertible—enough room for road trip luggage.

Controls are easy to find, and some of the standard features of the new Mustang include the MyKey parental control system, two USB ports, and the Sync voice-controlled connectivity system, among other features.

Reliability & Safety

The Mustang is a highly reliable performance vehicle. The current generation of Mustangs has typically earned a reliability rating of four stars from J.D. Power and Associates—an above average rating.

The Mustang offers a rearview camera as standard equipment, and Indiana car buyers can also opt for additional safety features such as rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and more.
