New Nissan Sentra buyers will get more for their money, thanks to several new tech upgrades the automaker has made to its 2018 Sentra models.
The 2018 Nissan Sentra adds automatic emergency braking as standard equipment on all vehicles, except for its stick-shift and NISMO performance versions. The Sentra’s S model also gains a rearview camera and 5-inch color display with Bluetooth streaming audio and Siri Eyes Free as standard equipment. Upper trim levels also gained dual-zone automatic temperature control and intelligent cruise control as standard equipment.
Nissan didn’t make a lot of changes to the Sentra for 2018 because it didn’t need to, as the 2017 model was a very solid automobile. The changes do give the new Nissan Sentra added value and help keep the Sentra current with other vehicles in its class.
The Sentra offers more than just great tech, however. The 2018 model is a very good package of practicality, along with some amenities that Indiana car buyers will love.
Performance
The new Nissan Sentra comes standard with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 124 horsepower and 125 ft-lb of torque. Consumers who opt for the SR Turbo trim get a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 188 horsepower and 177 ft-lb of torque. NISMO editions also get the turbo engine.
The Sentra is never going to be a performance vehicle, but it does well in daily commutes, providing a quiet, comfortable ride. Handling and steering are composed and even.
Interior
The new Sentra’s interior is where the vehicle really shines. Seats are plush and comfortable, and the cabin interior is made of quality materials. Plastic controls are durable and don’t have the cheap feeling that controls on some compact vehicles have. LATCH connectors for car seats are relatively easy to access.
With regard to cargo space, the Sentra outclasses most small sedans by offering a very generous 15.1 cubic feet of space. That’s comparable to the space offered in many mid-size sedans. Sentra owners can also fold the rear seats down for more cargo room.
The new Nissan Sentra comes in a variety of trim levels, including the S, SV, SR, SR Turbo, and Nismo. The wide range of trim levels available gives Indiana Nissan buyers plenty of options to customize their vehicles.
Reliability, Safety & Price
The 2018 Sentra has had average and above average safety ratings in recent years, and the 2018 model will likely shape up to be no exception. With regard to safety, the vehicle earns an overall four-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The new Sentra starts at about $16,900, and a fully loaded SL trim vehicle will cost around $23,440.
