The annual Cars.com “Best of” list is out, and we’re excited to say the Colorado ZR2 makes the list! Winning the prestigious award of “Best Pickup Truck of 2018,” the ZR2 does more than other trucks in its class—all while managing to remain stylish, on-trend, reliable, and rugged at the same time.

Why It Won

Exactly why did the ZR2 shine so brightly on this year’s list? For the answer to this question, we turned to the experts themselves. Cars.com editors praised the vehicle’s innovative design and “almost perfect combination of passion and technology,” calling it “the most distinctive vehicle that’s come along in years.”

What makes the ZR2 different from other vehicles in its class is a 3.5-inch wider track and a 2-inch higher raised suspension. Chevrolet also boosted the ZR2’s maneuverability by installing highly advanced functional rocker protection and improved front-and-back bumpers with more clearance than ever before.

Chevrolet also boosted the ZR2 with a long list of other features, including front and rear electronic locking differentials, an optional diesel engine for saving money on fuel, and Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve™ (DSSV™) technology. The result of all these high-performance add-ons is a truck that drives nearly flawlessly over even extremely rough terrain—a must for off-roading and backroad adventures.

Smooth Ride

The ZR2’s smooth ride is one of its biggest benefits. Drive it through the field to pick up hay, drive it on city streets during icy winter days, or just use it to commute to work. No matter where you go, you can trust it to carry you there safely with little concerns and fewer bumps. It takes small-to-medium rocks like a champ, effortlessly handles most fields, and can power through mud and snow like almost nothing else.

Under the Hood

The new ZR2 comes in 21 different trim levels; this diverse selection makes it infinitely easier to adjust your truck to match your needs. Save on gas by sacrificing just a tiny bit of power with the base trim’s 200 HP, 2.5-liter I-4 engine, or bump it up and max out your specs with the ZR2 4x4 Crew Cab instead.

The first achieves around 22 mpg (not bad for a truck) while the second achieves a modest 17 mpg. That said, the drop in mpg is well worth it if you use your truck for mostly offroading, field work, construction, or any other high-impact driving application.

The ZR2’s transmission is also variable; choose from manual or automatic in six or eight speeds for maximum flexibility. The base trim comes with a manual transmission only, but it does have overdrive, so it still provides plenty of punch. The ZR2 4x4 Crew Cab has an 8-speed automatic with overdrive instead, but its inclusion of auto-manual allows drivers who are used to manual shifts to feel more comfortable.

Probably the best thing about what’s under the hood is the very fact that you don’t have to choose either of the two trims mentioned above. They represent the baseline and highest performance options; there are another 19 individual engine arrangements to help you get the most out of your new ZR2.
