The 2017 F-150 offers a wider range of engine options than the 2017 Chevy Silverado and, while the Silverado is more powerful than the F-150 at lower trim levels, the top of the line F-150 Raptor outclasses anything Chevy can produce.

Performance – The F-150’s standard V6 engine produces 282 horsepower and 253 ft-lb of torque, while its twin-turbo V6 generates 325 horsepower and 375 ft-lb of torque. A V8 version puts out 385 horsepower and 387 ft-lb of torque, and a twin-turbo option V6 generates 375 horsepower and 470 ft-lb of torque. The Raptor model of the F-150 creates 450 horsepower.

The Silverado’s standard V6 engine cranks out 285 horsepower and 305 ft-lb of torque. Buyers can upgrade to two V8 engine options, one that generates 355 horsepower and 383 ft-lb of torque and one that puts out 420 horsepower and 460 ft-lb of torque.

Payload & towing – The F-150 can carry a heavy load with no problems. The F-150 has a maximum payload of 3,270 lbs., about 1,000 lbs. more than the Silverado’s. The Silverado has a slight edge in towing capacity, but only by about 300 lbs. The F-150 more than makes up for that with some amenities that make towing easier than ever, including a special camera and a knob controller that help drivers better maneuver trailers attached to their vehicles.

Infotainment – The F-150 has the SYNC 3 infotainment system, which is far easier to use and more logically laid out that the MyLink system available on Chevy Silverados. The SYNC 3 allows voice recognition, navigation, Siri Eyes Free, and much more.

Interior – The F-150 is known for its roomy, comfortable seats. The 2017 F-150 offers drivers and passengers a spacious cabin made from quality materials. The Chevy Silverado is less impressive looking, and not quite as comfortable as the F-150. The layout of the F-150 is also more user-friendly than the Silverado’s set-up, making it easier for drivers to operate.

Price – The base F-150 starts at around $26,730, while an entry-level Chevy Silverado will cost around $28,085.

The bottom line is that the Chevy Silverado is a good truck, but it’s not a great truck. For a true workhorse that also delivers a comfortable ride and great amenities, the Ford F-150 can’t be beat. Ford’s F-series of pick-up trucks have been the world’s best-selling trucks for decades, and it’s easy to see why.
