The Jeep Wrangler enjoys a long history as the nation’s most iconic off-roading vehicle. With time comes change, and that may why the Wrangler just went through a new facelift for 2018 and beyond. Some changes are superficial, but most are distinct improvements when it comes to performance, functionality, and convenience. Infotainment and Convenience

Technology has improved drastically since the Wrangler’s last redesign, so there are plenty of upgrades and new features in every model. Touchscreen sizes range from 5 inches to 8.4 inches, depending on the model and optional upgrades. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Google Android, so you’re not limited by the brand of your phone.

Higher-end systems now give you off-road performance statistics and trail maps to aid in your adventures. The Wrangler’s info and statistics user interface will take between 3.5 and 7 inches of screen real estate, depending on the trim.

There are improvements to convenience and accessibility with newer Wranglers. All models come with push-button ignitions and one-touch systems for retracting the canvas’ soft top, though the latter feature won’t be available until mid-2018.

Comfortable new seats have an adjustable bolster and lumbar supports for better support. One feature we’re especially excited about is the new door handle design, making it hassle-free to remove the doors whenever you want.

Better Visibility

The Wrangler’s visibility options have improved quite a bit with this more modern rework. The front and side windows are all larger than before—including the windscreens. Additionally, the side windscreens are easy to remove, thanks to the new four-bolt system. They also have a larger rake, which improves aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

Visual confirmation has also improved with this upgrade. The rearview mirror was relocated to a more convenient place on the new header bar. Jeep didn’t forget about backup cameras that are standard with many modern cars, and they conveniently placed it at the center of its rear-mounted spare tire.

Speaking of extras, the spare tire stored in the back is now lighter, thanks to an aluminum frame. This puts significantly less weight in the back, compared to the previous steel design. The Wrangler’s new backup tire takes less effort to replace and is more fuel efficient.

Features for Off-Roaders

Jeep’s engineers had the loyal off-road fan base of the Wrangler in mind with many of these new changes. They’ve made some improvements to the vehicle’s all-terrain capability that extend and expand its ability to traverse any terrain. The aforementioned aerodynamic windshield can be folded down when needed and, when the Wrangler is correctly set up, it can ford streams and lakes that are up to 30 inches deep.

Finally, the redesign of the Wrangler’s frame (including doors, hinges, fender, flares, and windshield) is made from lightweight aluminum. The total drop in weight with this simple material swap is expected to improve the new Wrangler’s fuel efficiency by 3 mpg. Now you’ll have even more time to off-road or street surf!
