For 2018, Ford has made a few changes to the popular crossover SUV, including a new SEL trim level that includes a power liftgate, leather seats, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system. The Detroit automaker also made some tweaks to the vehicle’s safety and convenience features. For the most part, Ford stuck with what’s been a winning formula for the Escape—a good driving experience, user-friendly interior, and ample cargo space. The vehicle is now available at Indianapolis Ford dealers and Ford dealerships around the country.

Here’s a look at some of the new Escape’s features:

  • Performance – The 2018 Ford Escape offers buyers three engines, a base 168 horsepower engine, and turbocharged 179 horsepower and 245 horsepower engines. The more powerful engines are available at upper trim levels of the vehicle.

All of the engines are strong and responsive, but there’s a definite difference in accelerating power with the upper-level engines. The Escape is a delight to drive, steering is agile and responsive, and it has an excellent suspension system.

The Escape gets about 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with the base engine. The mid-level 1.5-liter 179 horsepower engine is the most efficient option, getting 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

  • Trim levels – The Escape offers four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The S level offers just the basics but has some nice standard features, including a rearview camera, 4.2-inch central display, automatic headlights, and smartphone integration.

The new SEL trim level offers a comprehensive array of equipment, including the new features mentioned before. Other key features include 10-inch wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, and enhanced voice controls.

The top Titanium level leaves no amenity behind, offering all the SEL features plus the Escape’s most powerful engine. Other features include a household-style 110-volt power outlet, power seats, a navigation system, and an automated parallel and perpendicular parking system.

  • Interior – The Escape offers a comfortable and attractive cabin. Materials used for surfaces and seating are of good quality and are well put together. The Escape offers a comfortable seating position, and the vehicle is just the right height to make getting in and out easy. Head and leg space in the front and back seats is ample. All of the controls are within easy reach and sight of the driver.

  • Price – The new 2018 Ford Escape starts at about $24,000, and the top-level Titanium trim will cost around $30,000 or more, depending on the options you select.
