Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Truck Indianapolis Dealer Keeps Tires and Wheels Running Smoothly | CommunityCars.com Blog

The tires and wheels on your Chrysler vehicle require regular inspections to identify potential problems before they leave you stranded on the side of the road. You should visually inspect your tires and wheels for signs of damage when you:

  • Wash Your Car
  • Get the Oil Changed
  • Get Gas

Things you should look for include:

  • Bulging or bubbles in the tires’ sidewalls. The sidewalls are the weakest part of the tires, and bulges or bubbles indicate something is wrong with the tire. It will eventually blow out, causing a flat tire and, potentially, also damage the wheel.
  • Scratches, nicks, and dents on the wheels (rims). While most of these can be superficial damages, sometimes they can affect how the tire is sealed to the rim. For instance, if there is a dent that bent the rim, the tire can lose air pressure or even come off the rim while you are driving.
  • Tires that look flatter along the bottom compared to the other tires. If the tire looks wider at the bottom, it often means it is low on air. Add air to the recommended pressure and keep an eye on the tire. If it loses air again, it means there is a slow leak somewhere that needs to be fixed.
  • Uneven tread wear. The tread on the tires should wear evenly. If the tread is wearing in the middle or along the outsides faster than the other parts of the tire, it means the tires are overfilled or under-filled with air. Uneven tread wear also occurs when the car needs an alignment.

If you notice any of the following, you should bring your vehicle into your authorized Chrysler dealership in Indianapolis service center right away. There are different types of tire and wheel services you could require to resolve any issues or problems. Some of the more common ones are:

  • Front End Alignments – If the car pulls to the left or right, it means something is wrong with the alignment. Driving over potholes and bumpy roads and hitting curbs can cause the alignment to get out of sync.
  • Wheel Rotation and Balancing – Rotating the tires helps ensure the treads wear evenly and extends the lifespan of your tires. Tires do need to be balanced whenever they are rotated.
  • Wheel Repairs and Replacements – Scratches, nicks, and dents can be repaired for most types of wheels to make them look as good as when you drove your Chrysler off the lot. Rims should be replaced if they cannot be repaired, as well as if they are corroded, bent, or severely damaged.

The above services should be performed at specific intervals based on your driving habits. You can obtain a wheel and tire service interval schedule that shows the miles or months to perform the services at our Chrysler dealership.
